With a budget of $100 million, the government is launching a project to build resilient houses in flood-prone areas.
According to reports, the government is launching a project for Resilient housing reconstruction in flood-hit areas across all provinces with the help of a $100 million World Bank loan.
According to the documents, the World Bank contribution will cover this cost as a loan to the Government of Pakistan, with the loan proceeds transferred to the Government of Balochistan/other provinces as a “Grant in Aid” against projects duly approved by PDWP/ Provincial Competent Forum.
According to the documents, Balochistan will receive 75% of the estimated $100 million cost, while the other provinces will have 20% and the federal government will have 5%. The project is part of the National Program for Post-Flood Reconstruction: Climate Resilience Enhancement’s PC-I.
This project will assist flood-affected people in rebuilding and repairing their homes. The construction of new homes and repairs to existing ones will be done in such a way that they are prepared to withstand extreme weather in the future. The component will aid in the implementation of a systematic approach to housing reconstruction based on resilience principles. To ensure that reconstruction sites are more flood-resistant, a spatial planning survey will be conducted.
The government will provide cash grants to homeowners on this basis for the reconstruction or restoration of damaged houses. The component will help the participating provinces lead the owner-driven reconstruction scheme.
