19 bodies were recovered from a truck near the border of Guatemala in the southern state of Chiapas, Mexico.
According to the state attorney general, 5 of the bodies found in the truck had gunshot wounds, the bodies were wearing dark clothes and jackets full of gunpowder. The president of Mexico attributed the deaths to cartels (drugs). (trafficking) attributed to the violence and said some of the victims were Guatemalan immigrants. The president said there was a conflict between 2 cartel groups, but the safety of people in the area was ensured. Media Violence is reportedly on the rise in Chiapas as cartels fight for control of lucrative migrant and drug-trafficking routes, and the battle is being fought between the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
