The winning Pakistani squad from the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup is getting ready to celebrate their historic victory in the USA. At a ceremony to announce the impending celebration tour, former cricket players including captain Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Misbah Ul Haq, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, Abdul Razzaq, Umar Gul, and Saeed Ajmal participated.

The celebratory tour will visit many US states starting on April 28 and will feature exhibition matches and meet-and-greets. The tour aims to raise awareness of cricket among the American Pakistani population.

Younis Khan stated that he wished his team had won more cups during that time, looking back on the 2009 triumph. We need to have had more titles, in my opinion. This commemoration of the 2009 triumph in America is a singular occasion.

Despite his high expectations for the present side in the ICC World Cup 2023, Shahid Afridi—a vital member of the 2009 semi-final and final—acknowledged that they haven’t performed at their best in ideal circumstances. In addition, he addressed the doubts surrounding Babar Azam’s captaincy and backed him to stay in charge of the team during their trip to Australia.

In response to the national team’s dismal performance in the ICC World Cup 2023, former captain Shoaib Malik made it clear that any criticism of Babar Azam is not directed towards him personally. He emphasised that Azam can do great things despite the difficulties of captaincy and voiced faith in his ability as a player.
