Tuesday marked the submission of a report by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to the Interior Ministry about the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) breach of citizen data.

The Interior Ministry was instructed by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to look into the data breach in conjunction with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and Military Intelligence.

The data of 2.7 million Pakistanis was hacked between 2019 and 2023, according to the study, reportedly with the help of the NADRA offices in Karachi, Peshawar, and Multan.

The corrupted data was allegedly taken from Multan to Peshawar, transmitted to Dubai, and sold in Argentina and Romania, according to the JIT investigation. The study suggested taking legal action against a number of top NADRA personnel who were implicated in the data breach.

Under the direction of the FIA Director of Cybercrime, a joint investigative team was established to look into the hack that occurred in March 2023 and resulted in the compromise and theft of private information belonging to civilians, including military members.

After completing the inquiry, the JIT gave its conclusions to Anwaarul Haq Kakar, the acting prime minister. NADRA was instructed by the acting prime minister to implement the required measures in light of the JIT’s recommendations and conclusions.
