The Ministry of Finance has issued a formal clarification regarding reports attributing a statement to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb about salary and pension increases for government employees.

The ministry categorically denied any such announcement, calling the circulating news misleading and baseless.

In an official statement, the ministry asserted that no discussion took place on the floor of the National Assembly regarding the revision of pay scales or salary increases for government employees. It further clarified that when the matter was raised in the House by an honourable member, the ministry responded in writing, stating that no such proposal is under consideration for the next financial year.

The ministry emphasized that there is currently no proposal under review for revising the pay scales of federal employees or significantly increasing their salaries and allowances.

“The Finance Minister has not made any such announcement or statement in the National Assembly,” the spokesperson stated, dismissing media reports suggesting otherwise.

Earlier, it was reported that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb ruled out any increase in the salaries and pensions of government employees in the upcoming federal budget, stating that no such proposal is currently under consideration.

In a written response submitted during the Question Hour in the National Assembly, Aurangzeb clarified that the government is not reviewing any plans to revise the pay scale, allowances, or pensions of federal employees in the next fiscal year.

“The issue of increasing the hiring and ceiling limits for government employees is under discussion; however, no proposal regarding a salary or pension hike is being considered,” the finance minister stated in his reply.
