Zindagi Tamasha becomes Pakistan’s official submission to the Oscars 2021

Sarmad Khoosat’s film Zindagi Tamasha has been selected by the Pakistan Academy Selection Committee as the official entry to the 93rd Oscars award ceremony.

During the Oscars awards ceremony there is a category namely “International feature film award”. For this category, Pakistan has submitted Zindagi Tamasha to be nominated.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will be deciding the final list of nominees in February 2021 and furthermore the announcement will be made on 15th March 2021.

The exhibition show for the 93rd Academy Awards will be taking place on 25th April 2021.

The decision of selecting zindagi tamasha as official nomination was made by the Pakistan Oscar Committee for 2020. This committee was chaired by:

  • Hasan Shehryar Yasin
  • Jamal Shah
  • Syed Muhammad Ahmed

Featuring Arif Hasan, Eman Suleman and Samiya Mumtaz; Zindagi Tamash has been directed and co-produced by none other than Sarmad Khoosat and his sister Kanwal Khoosat.

The storyline of the movie revolves around a naat khwan Rahat Khawaja. After a certain video of him started to circulate he is then thrown into the well of embarrassment. Even his own daughter is suddenly ashamed of him or being associated with him.

Last year during October, zindagi tamasha became the hot topic of discussion when the film won big at the Busan International Film Festival held in South Korea.

The film was later on banned by the council of Islamic ideology. There was not official ban on the film, but it was pulled back from screening by the provisional and central sensor boards.
