For another year in a row, Lahore has topped in the ranking list of the most polluted cities in the world.
“Lahore ranks the most polluted city in the world,” US air quality index released the air pollution data yesterday which reveled Lahore as most polluted city in the world.
Reportedly Lahore had particulate matter rating of 423 taking it to the top of the ranking among other polluted cities of the world with India’s New Delhi coming next to Lahore being the second most polluted city in the world with a PM of 229.
After New Delhi, Nepal’s capital Kathmandu came third on the list with the PM of 178. Karachi on the other hand has been ranked at number 7th on the list.
According to United States Environmental Agency, if the air quality index is below 50 then it is considered safe and satisfactory and not included in the list of polluted areas. Based on this, Lahore’s AQI stands at 423, which is above 300. It is considered hazardous because of this.
Environmental experts have said that the main reason behind this smog is not just the crop burning, a major hand behind this is the pollution created by the transportation sector.
