A polio worker tried to take her own life due to months of non-payment

A polio worker climbed on the top of a building of the Punjab Health Department in Union Council Bangla Icha of Tehsil Rojhan and attempted to take her own life as she was not getting any salary and it has been months.

The saddening event that took place on Friday was straightaway taken under control by health officials who saved the worker and guaranteed her that her four-month payments would be provided, after which she came down from the rooftop.

Punjab’s Ministry of Health reacted to the suicide attempt saying that they would clear all the payments of the polio workers once they open up bank accounts.

According to the department: “Some of the workers are yet to open their bank accounts,”

Looking at the other side of the picture, more than 40 million children were recently given vaccine shots during the polio immunization campaign that was being conducted all over the country, and more than 30 million of them were also given Vitamin A drops

The Director-General Health, Dr. Safdar, stated that 287,000 polio workers had took part in the immunization campaign and that their participation had been amazing
