Pakistan has guaranteed “every possible assistance” to the family of Nafiah Ikram, an American citizen of Pakistani origin, who was left blemished in an acid attack outside her New York home that also even took her close to blindness.
“The Consul General of Pakistan in New York is in contact with the family and has offered every possible help,” Representative of the Foreign Ministry Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri mentioned in a statement.
Nafiah is an American resident of Pakistani origin and is living along with her parents in Long Island.
The representative stated the regional police department had allotted a 12-member team to inspect the episode.
“We should wait for investigations to complete to ascertain the nature of the crime and the motive behind it,” Chaudhri stated.
Nevertheless, he said the Pakistan Embassy in Washington DC and Consulate General in New York would thoroughly monitor progresses and would offer “every possible assistance” to the family.
Nafiah Ikram, 21, and her mother were stepping out of their car outside their home on March 17 when an unidentified man hurried up to her, threw a corroding liquid at her face and rushed away. She was left brutally burned and closely blind.
