Controversial Indian television anchor Arnab Goswami was left embarrassed when his “intelligence” related to Pakistan Army’s reported presence in Afghanistan’s Panjshir valley went wrong, becoming the target of numerous memes on Pakistani as well as Indian Twitter platform.
Goswami, who is notorious for his war-mongering and violent reporting that supports the benefits of India’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party, made the fake pas when he confidently stated that Pakistan Army officers were residing on the fifth floor of the luxury Serena Hotel in Kabul seemingly to back the Taliban in their fight against opposition fighters in Panjshir.
The argumentative anchor’s claim was hurriedly exposed, nevertheless, because the Serena Hotel in Kabul only has two stories, not five.
In his show ‘The Debate’ on Republic World TV channel previous week, Goswami had invited an Indian jounalist as well as PTI representative Abdul Samad Yaqoob
Goswami has asked Yaqoob: “You go and check today … on the fifth floor of the Serena Hotel, I am telling you, please check, fifth floor of the Serena Hotel in Kabul, how many Pakistani army officers are there?”
“I can also maybe tell you what they ordered for dinner so don’t question my intelligence sources,” he continued. “We’ve got all our aerial surveillance on you people.”
The next day, Yaqoob was back on Goswami’s show and contradicted the anchor’s claim by saying: “What I got to know from my sources [is that] Serena has only two floors. There are no third, fourth or fifth floors.”
