There has recently been a tonne of updates made to WhatsApp’s status feature, but there will be many more in the future. The ability to transcribe voicemails will be one of those.
When WhatsApp initially started to work on this feature in September 2021, it was first discovered, but work on it was halted for unidentified reasons. The company has resumed development on it, according to the most recent beta of WhatsApp for iOS (23.3.0.73).
The WhatsApp feature tracker blog WABetaInfo, as usual, is where the news is found.
WhatsApp has started developing a notice that indicates when voice message transcription is not available. It states that when the app doesn’t recognize any words or if the transcripts aren’t set to the language in the sender’s messages, transcripts won’t function.
Additionally, you have the choice of changing the language used for transcriptions.
By downloading the required language packs, these voice note transcriptions are always processed locally on the device. You will always be the only one with access to the information in your voice notes because they are never shared with Apple or WhatsApp. It should be noted that this feature might only be accessible on recent iOS versions.
Such a feature ought to be useful when you get a voice message but aren’t able to listen to it right away, like when you’re listening to music on Bluetooth speakers. This feature will convert audio into text and allow you to read it instantly.
Although there is no official release date as of yet, this feature should eventually go live as it has recently returned to beta testing once more.
