With a monthly fee of $11.99 for websites and $14.99 for mobile apps, Meta is launching a paid verification service for Facebook and Instagram.

Users who have “Meta Verified” accounts will gain access to a verified badge, improved platform visibility, priority customer support, and some other advantages, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Instagram. This week, the service will be made available in Australia and New Zealand, with plans to reach more nations soon after.

You have to meet the minimum activity requirements in order to sign up for Meta Verified accounts. This includes that you must be of 18 years of age and present a government-issued ID that exactly matches your name and profile picture on Facebook or Instagram.

Though it resembles the Twitter subscription model of $8 monthly as introduced by Elon Musk, Meta stresses that it won’t change the accounts that have previously been verified using the company’s prior standards, which take factors like authenticity and notability into account.

Additionally, users who sign up for the Meta Verified service would be able to use exclusive stickers for Stories and Reels as well as receive 100 free stars reward each month in the form of Facebook virtual currency for content creators.

Companies are currently not eligible for the Meta Verified badge, according to Meta. Changing account details like your profile name, birthdate, username or profile image will result in a new verification process

This week, the service will make its debut in Australia and New Zealand. It will cost $19.99 AUD or $23.99 NZD for the web and $24.99 AUD or $29.99 NZD for mobile devices. The higher price on iOS and Android is apparently meant to make up for the commission that both Apple and Google charge on in-app purchases.
