Stealing of Books Causes the Special Street Library in Rawalpindi to Close

    0

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has temporarily shut down the distinctive street library that is situated in the Miyawaki forest close to Rialto Bridge on Murree Road in response to book stealing. RDA Director General (DG) Saif Anwar Jappa claims that drug users who broke the library’s glass stole some of the books.

To protect the rest of the books, RDA has taken the appropriate precautions. They’ve made the decision to store the books in secure storage inside their offices till the library is ready to open again. The public was given the assurance by Director General Jappa that the library would resume operations soon.

RDA also intends to increase security in the area surrounding the library. To protect the books, they plan to send out staff who’ll keep surveillance on the area around the library. The library was first established in Rawalpindi in 2021 with the aid of a welfare organisation, and it is the first one to have visitor seating.

Reading in the peaceful and lush Miyawaki urban forest, which has 8,000 plants associated with 52 different species, provides an exceptional experience for readers at the street library. This project aims to promote sharing and recycling of books, make literature easily accessible to the local community, and foster societal interaction and connections between locals.
