The Gilgit Baltistan (GB) government has unveiled a plan for controlling and managing environmental issues brought on by the recent increase in tourists. The government’s proactive approach is expected to usher in a new era of ecological preservation and sustainable tourism.
Muhiudeen Wani, the chief secretary of Gilgit Baltistan, disclosed that the cabinet will soon approve a number of significant initiatives. These will aid in resolving environmental problems that have plagued well-known tourist destinations.
One of the initiatives entails rules to control the construction of tourist facilities in ecologically vulnerable and crucial areas. Wani stated that the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Business’ evaluation of these guidelines was successful. They are prepared to be put into action soon, pending final cabinet approval.
Through the master planning of ecologically sensitive areas, the government is also creating tourist destinations that are environmentally friendly. Following the PC-II’s endorsement, consultants have been hired to steer these efforts in the right direction.
The Attaabad Lake Area Master Plan is almost finished and is awaiting approval from the cabinet. Similar to this, the Skardu Development Authority is expected to approve the Master Plan for Skardu, which is currently being discussed.
The Chief Secretary of Great Britain expressed his appreciation for the help and inspiration as they strive to fulfil their goals. He emphasised that by implementing the strategy, GB hopes to strike a balance between tourism growth and environmental preservation, creating a prototype for sustainable tourism practises in the area.
