Nawaz Sharif, a former prime minister and head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), claimed that measures are being taken to shield the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who is implicated in corruption involving billions of rupees
Speaking to the media in London, Nawaz Sharif asserted that Pakistan’s Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Umar Ata Bandial, was defending the PTI leader, who is suspected of embezzling billions of rupees.

Nawaz spoke after Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial asked the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to hear the disqualification and conviction case involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Toshakhana. Bandial also suggested that the PTI leader was erroneously found guilty and that he was not given enough time to mount a defence.

According to Nawaz Sharif, the CJP is fully aware of the damage the PTI chief has done to Pakistan’s economy, morals, and culture. He has repeatedly flouted the Constitution while promoting violence.

He claimed that by defending the PTI chief, the chief justice was jeopardising his own career. He continued, “It pains me to see that he (the CJP) is backing him (the PTI chief) despite knowing everything.

The PML-N leader cited testimony from Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui and others that former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had previously made claims that his goal was to remove Nawaz Sharif from office and imprison him.

“It is on record that Saqib Nisar had also stated in the past that we must imprison Maryam Nawaz and me and bring the PTI chief into power,” he said.

Recalling previous remarks made by the PTI leader, Nawaz recalled that when the PTI leader was elected prime minister, he declared during a trip to the US that he would take down the ceiling fan in Nawaz Sharif’s cell. The PTI leader used to say that he would tie a rope around Nawaz Sharif’s neck and drag him out of the Prime Minister House, the speaker continued.

In the meantime, PML-N Senior Vice President and Nawaz’s daughter Maryam Nawaz questioned the value of waiting for the high court’s ruling on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “When chief justice Sahib has already made the verdict, what is the point of waiting for the high court’s decision?”
