Haleem Adil Sheikh, the president of the PTI in Sindh, was taken into custody by Karachi police on Wednesday after he went to the Sindh High Court (SHC) to ask for an injunction to stop his potential arrest.
The PTI leader was seen being escorted out of the court grounds in the video broadcast on DawnNewsTV. The specifics of the incident for which he was arrested were still unknown.
Sheikh was one of the PTI leaders accused of fomenting unrest and inciting violence by starting fires on both public and private property after the May 9 riots in response to Imran Khan’s arrest, the party’s leader and a former prime minister.
In the land scam case, the SHC today prohibited the authorities from detaining the former opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly. However, as soon as the PTI leader left the SHC’s grounds, the police detained him and took him to an undisclosed location.
Sheikh’s attorney, Wahab Baloch, told Dawn.com that his client showed up in court today in response to a graft case that had been brought against him in Jamshoro. However, a sizable police presence was brought in to make the arrest, which he claimed was against court orders.
Baloch expressed dissatisfaction over the arrest, noting that Sheikh’s party continued to receive the same treatment despite the change in government.
