Twitter, now known as simply X, has previously stated intentions to introduce audio and video calls, but each time the plan was either postponed or abandoned. But it appears that we will get it soon now.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, has announced that audio and video calls will function on both computers and smartphones. Devices running Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS are included.
Additionally, he said that X will function as a global address book with its usernames and that the feature won’t require any phone numbers. “This combination of elements is special,” he declared.
We can anticipate seeing this feature soon since Musk did not specify when X intends to release it, only that it is “coming”.
As was previously mentioned, the social media platform has previously discussed audio and video calls. The company’s designer shared screenshots of what it will look like last month. Look at the tweet (sorry, “post”) that follows.
When the feature is active, your Twitter (X) direct messages (DMs) will display a phone receiver icon in the top right corner. You can choose to make an audio or video call by tapping on it.
Picture-in-picture screens that display both your own video feed and that of your contact are standard for video calls. Additionally, there will be buttons for muting yourself, turning off speakers, turning off your camera, and ending the call.
The feature’s final design might, however, turn out to be slightly different.
