On Thursday, Muslims in Pakistan observed Chehlum in honour of Hazrat Imam Hussein (RA), the Holy Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) grandson, and other Karbala tragedy martyrs.

In order to prevent any undesirable circumstances, mourning processions are being held throughout Pakistan, including in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar.

The 40th day after Imam Hussein and his 72 companions were killed in Karbala by Yazidi forces is known as Chehlum or Arba’een.

The main funeral procession will leave from Nishter Park in Karachi, the largest city in the nation, and end at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah Kharadar. The small procession will be joined by a number of people from various parts of the port city.

Routes leading to the central procession route were blocked off with containers, and a large contingent of police, Rangers, and other security personnel were stationed there.

In Lahore, where the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Gunj Bakhsh is also observed, similar security measures have been implemented. Today is a holiday for all public and private schools in Karachi and Lahore.

Additionally, mourning processions will be held in Quetta, Multan, Sargodha, Peshawar, and other cities across the nation.
