Nawaz Sharif, the elder brother and three-time prime minister, will fly back to Pakistan from London on October 21, according to former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday.

For the past four years, Nawaz has lived in self-imposed exile in London.

Shehbaz made a statement that was shared on social media platform X by PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb, in which he promised the party founder a triumphant welcome upon his return.

Shehbaz, who was in London with Nawaz at the time, spoke to the media and stated: “This decision was taken after consultation with the party, and according to this, Nawaz Sharif [will return to the country] on October 21.”

In response to a query, he stated that Nawaz would arrive in Lahore. “Nawaz Sharif’s return is anticipated by the entire country. When Nawaz Sharif was removed from office and disqualified, Shehbaz predicted that the nation and its economy would continue to grow in the same manner as they had before he left Pakistan in 2017.

Shehbaz responded that holding elections was the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) constitutional obligation when asked about the PPP’s concerns and the PML-N’s position on holding elections on time.

“It is the ECP’s constitutional duty to hold elections in accordance with the new census, and I fully expect that it will fulfil that duty.”
