Weak to moderate moist currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to enter Pakistan’s upper regions starting on September 22, 2023, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). On September 22, upper portions are also likely to be impacted by a westerly wave.
Under the influence of this weather system, rain/wind-thundershower (with few moderate to heavy falls) is expected in Kashmir, (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kurram, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera from 22nd to 24 September with occasional gaps.
With sporadic breaks, rain/wind-thundershowers are also predicted for the 23rd and 24th of September in Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Bahawalnagar.
Impacts and Advice: On September 22 and 23, moderate to heavy rains may result in urban flooding in low-lying parts of Lahore, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi.
From September 22 to 24, moderate to severe rainfall could cause landslides in the prone regions of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.
The management of crop operations by farmers is advised.
Travellers and tourists are advised to use caution to stay safe throughout the time.
Storms with high winds and thunder can harm unsecured infrastructure like solar panels and utility poles.
When there is wind, lightning, moderate, or heavy rain, it is urged that the general people remain in safe locations.
Additionally, it is recommended that throughout the predicted period, all responsible authorities stay vigilant and take the appropriate safety measures.
