A two-train crash that occurred on Sunday in Sheikhupura, an industrial city northwest of Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, resulted in more than 30 injuries.

Several passengers on the Mianwali Express were hurt when it collided with a goods train at the Qila Sattar Shah station, but no fatalities were reported.

According to statements made to the media by railway officials, the passenger coach struck the second train that was waiting at the station when it was travelling from Mianwali to Lahore. The accident also resulted in injuries to the train driver and his aide.

The passengers and personnel who sustained injuries have been sent to a nearby hospital for treatment, while those who suffered minor injuries have received first assistance at the scene.

According to early reports, the failure of the local station workers to move the railway track may have contributed to the tragedy.

Following the initial investigations, at least four railway employees, including a train driver and his helper, were suspended. A commission of inquiry headed by a deputy principal officer was also established, and it will soon deliver a thorough report.

While CEO of Railways Shahid Aziz stated that no compromise will be made on passenger safety, railway officials hinted at harsh punishment being taken against individuals responsible for the tragedy.
