In the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will square off on Tuesday at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
Despite a shaky start, Pakistan defeated the Netherlands in its opening game of the massive cricket tournament after a lacklustre Asia Cup 2023 campaign in which they had previously suffered losses in both of their warm-up matches against New Zealand and Australia.
Grant Bradburn, the head coach of the Green Shirts, is optimistic about the team’s top-order batting despite its recent underwhelming play.
In his remarks to the media prior to the Sri Lanka game in Hyderabad, Bradburn emphasised the team’s commitment to ongoing development.
We’re developing our collective and coaching staff confidence. Even when we win, we are very keen on reviewing our performance, the head coach added.
Bradburn reflected on Pakistan’s preparation for the match against Sri Lanka and acknowledged that the islanders had the upper hand in recent white-ball matches, but he stressed that players have grown quite accustomed to one another.
“We are well familiar with their players. Mickey Arthur, who has tutored them before, is our hidden weapon. Therefore, Mickey was a really useful addition to the sessions this morning because he was able to add in some intricate issues regarding their batters and bowlers, the speaker stated.
Bradburn underlined the importance of working as a cohesive team by stating that the group now comes before the individual. He emphasised the team’s attempts to establish clarity on each member’s specific tasks and obligations within the squad.
The Babar Azam-led team defeated the Netherlands in their opening encounter by an 81-run margin after overcoming a few batting breakdowns to set a lofty goal of 287.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka entered the competition following a demoralising loss to a strong Indian team in the Asia Cup finals.
As with Pakistan, Sri Lanka lost both of its exhibition games against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Key players like Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera are absent from the Sri Lankan team.
