The Supreme Court of Pakistan has been notified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that the country’s general elections are scheduled to take place on February 11, 2024.

The ECP provided the Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa-led three-member bench with the election date during the case hearing on the 90-day notice to hold general elections.

The Supreme Court bench was informed by the ECP’s attorney that the elections will take place on February 11, 2023, and that the delimitation procedure will be finished by November 30.

It should be mentioned that the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and other parties are pleading with the top court to hold early elections in the nation.

Regarding President Arif Alvi’s position on the issue, the Chief Justice questioned the ECP’s attorney. According to Justice Athar Minallah, the President of Pakistan has the power to set the date of the election.

Subsequently, the Election Commission was instructed to speak with President Arif Alvi and inquire about his thoughts on the matter.

The apex court was informed by the ECP’s attorney that all preparations will be finished by January 29. In order to guarantee the highest level of voter participation, he said, elections would take place on Sunday.
