With the Player Draft Pick Order already finalised, PSL 9 preparations are getting underway. The first choice in the Pakistan Super League 2024 Player Draft will go to the Quetta Gladiators. The second and third choices will go to the Karachi Kings and Islamabad United, the reigning champions.
Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans, the runners-up from the previous season, will make the fourth and fifth selections, respectively, while Lahore Qalandars, the victors of the previous two events, will make the sixth pick to conclude the first round.
The inverse order of the previous season’s rankings determines the selection order for the platinum category in the first round. A different club will have the first selection in the first round of each category in order to improve the selection order’s equity. The first platinum selections will go to the Quetta Gladiators, followed by the Karachi Kings with the first diamond selection, Peshawar Zalmi with the first gold selection, Multan Sultans with the first silver selection, Islamabad United with the first player in the emerging category, and Lahore Qalandars with the first supplementary selection.
The foreign player registration window was previously established by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The headline event is slated to take place in 2024, most likely between February 8 and March 24.
Before deciding on player retention, franchisees will now submit petitions for players to be demoted. All teams get the opportunity to match the player’s base category once the relegation petitions are floated. The player could be demoted to a category below their basic category if their base category is not matched.
It is tentatively planned that the PSL 9 draft will happen in mid-December, right after the National T20.
