After India’s dramatic victory against Afghanistan last night, skipper Rohit Sharma of India tied the record for the most T20 international victories.
The match finished in a second super over for the first time in men’s T20I history. Following 20 overs in which both sides scored 212 runs apiece, they again tied with 16 runs apiece in the first super over. Afghanistan only scored one run in the second super-over, but India set a thrilling goal of 12 runs and won.
After this thrilling victory, Rohit Sharma has now won 42 Twenty20 international matches in 55 games as captain of India. This record is matched by Babar Azam, who has also won 42 games but in 71 matches, as well as by Eoin Morgan and Ashgar Afghan.
As the captain of the Indian T20I squad, Rohit Sharma has amassed 42 victories, which puts him in the group of captains from full-member nations who have won the most in the shorter format.
Most wins as a captain in T20Is
Prior to this, Rohit Sharma created history by being the first player in men’s T20I cricket history to score five hundred. Rohit showed incredible tenacity even in the face of adversity, as his team’s third Twenty20 international encounter against Afghanistan saw many wickets fall rapidly.
In the T20 format, he not only remained strong but also went after his century with aggression. Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar Yadav had both amassed four hundred in Twenty20 Internationals before this encounter.
