We revealed last week that two automobiles under the Chery International labels, Omoda and Jaecoo, will be introduced in Pakistan. Mr. Ryan Wang, the brand manager for Omoda and Jaecoo, recently gave unprecedented access to further information on the Omoda E5 EV and the Jaecoo J7 PHEV during an exclusive live webcast held in Wuhu City, Anhui Province, China. Due to its features and style, the Omoda E5 is a mainstream EV that appeals to younger and Gen-Z consumers. In contrast, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is more of an upscale off-road SUV that is meant for affluent consumers.

According to Chery International, the J7 PHEV has a significant differential over its rivals, which gives it an advantage in the Pakistani market. This means that it has superior styling, larger infotainment screens, more driver assistance systems, and better off-roading.

Pakistan’s charging infrastructure and the Omoda E5

Concurrently, the MG4 EV, which provides a comparable platform and range to the Omoda E5, is expected to rival the E5. Omoda plans to install charging infrastructure for electric cars in Pakistan’s main cities, given the deficiency of such infrastructure in the country.

In order to allow customers to charge the E5 at home, they will also provide a 3KW AC charger.

Cost and Launch Information
For Pakistan, no final pricing information has been determined yet. Prices are anticipated to be competitive and will target vehicles with similar specs, with the Jaecoo J7 PHEV competing with the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Corolla Cross. Omoda E5 intends to take aim at MG4, since it is currently the closest rival.

Keep in mind that the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is anticipated to cost more than Rs. 1.3 crore worldwide, while the Omoda E5 will likely cost about Rs. 1 crore in Malaysia. Due to taxes and charges, prices in Pakistan will be somewhat higher.

According to Mr. Ryan Wang, they plan to introduce these two cars in Pakistan in the second half of 2024, namely in the third and fourth quarters. It is possible to determine the precise launch date by Q3 2024 (July–September).

The presence of Chery in Pakistan
Ghandhara Automobiles currently assembles and sells two Chery cars in Pakistan: the Tiggo 4 Pro and the Tiggo 8 Pro. Omoda and Jaecoo, on the other hand, will not be introduced in collaboration with Ghadhara Nissan. Mr. Ryan disclosed that in order to introduce these cars to the nation, they would collaborate with an outside business.

With good reason, Chery International has high hopes for the Pakistani market. In 2023, the company’s revenue will amount to CNY 300 billion. Chery has been China’s top exporter of passenger cars for the last 21 years, having sent almost a million of them in a single year.
