The Election Commission Was Not Able to Confirm the Results 18 Hours After the Polls Closed

The delay in releasing the results of yesterday’s elections has drawn criticism towards the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The provincial election commissioners and returning officers were also given a strong warning by ECP last night to declare the results of the general elections of 2024 within 30 minutes or “face strict action.”

But the official results for most of the seats in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies are still pending.

Based on preliminary unofficial results, independent candidates supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are leading for the majority of seats in the national legislature.

Regarding the worries over the postponement of election results, the Interior Ministry has also commented. “Lack of communication, which was a result of preventive measures taken to ensure foolproof security,” it stated, was the cause of the delay.

After evaluating the delay, the Ministry declared the existing state of affairs to be “satisfactory.”

However, customers all throughout the nation experienced hour-long interruptions even after the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) declared that there would be no internet disruptions.

In a statement, the Interior Ministry said that previous militant assaults had resulted in the loss of “precious lives” and that such “security measures are essential to maintain the law and order situation and to deal with potential threats.”
