Shehbaz Sharif was announced by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday as their nominee for prime minister.
According to reports, Maryam Nawaz, the top organiser for the PML-N, would run for Punjab chief minister.
Following talks among the associated parties, the final announcement on the individual selected as the unanimity candidate for the position of prime minister will be made.
Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz’s names have received Nawaz Sharif’s approval.
In a related event, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and former president Asif Ali Zardari received thank-you statements from PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif for declaring support for the former’s party.
The former prime minister claimed to have had a phone call with Zardari and Bilawal on X (previously Twitter).
“I have thanked them [Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto] on behalf of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif for announcing their support for the PML-N,” he stated.
“Hopefully, the PML-N and PPP can work together to shepherd the nation out of its current political and economic predicament.
