Universal number plates launched by Punjab government

In a recent notification, Punjab government has announced that they will be launching universal number plates all across the province.

A government official stated, “Vehicles in all Punjab cities will now be registered under one serial from August 17, 2020.”

The Punjab Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department plans to issue number plates with the same serial number. The department also stated that the plates with LEA, RN, BW, and MA serials will be retired and the number plates will only feature “Punjab” on them.

The government reportedly launched an E-Auction App for universal number plates. The consumers can take part in an online auction via the app.

Reportedly the first auction will be held on 30th August.

In order to participate in an online auction, you will have to download the E-Auction App or visit the Excise Department website. Within 3 days of downloading the app, enter the online registration. Choose the number you wish and join the E-auction.

It is important to take part in the auction, after 3 days of registration. The registration is Rs. 5,000 for cars, Rs. 1,000 for commercial vehicles, and Rs.500 for bikes respectively.
