Kamala Harris warns of policy risks in potential Trump second term

At a campaign event in Las Vegas on Thursday night, Vice President Kamala Harris warned that a second Trump term could reinstate some of his most controversial policies, including family separations at the border and a revamp of the healthcare system.

Harris highlighted Trump’s recent speeches as both candidates made final pushes in key battleground states ahead of Election Day.

“Listen to what he’s saying as his closing argument. It’s all about hate and division … and it’s not just what he says, it’s what he will do,” she said.

Drawing from her own background, Harris shared memories of her parents taking her to civil rights marches as a young child and commended young voters for their commitment to shaping the future. She also addressed a previous event in Washington, DC, taking a familiar jab at Trump’s rhetoric by promising to represent all Americans, including those who disagree with her.

This contrasted with Trump’s recent statement calling his opponents the “enemy from within”.

In her speech, Harris criticized Trump’s recent remarks on protecting women “whether they like it or not,” pointing to his past comment that women should be punished for certain choices. “The courts will handle that — and we’ll handle November,” she said, receiving cheers from the audience.

Harris also outlined her primary policy goals, including reducing the cost of living and housing, increasing the minimum wage, making elderly home care and childcare more affordable, and offering tax cuts for small businesses. She underscored the importance of women’s reproductive rights, highlighting the potential risks of Trump’s policies in light of the Roe v. Wade rollback.
