The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chief election commissioner, Shah Khawar, has been appointed the organisation’s acting head.

Khawar is currently in charge of the cricket board’s operations following Zaka Ashraf’s departure as PCB chairman. He has been instructed to make sure that the election process is quick and transparent and to move quickly to constitute the Board of Governors (BoG).

If the position of board chairman becomes vacant, all powers shall be passed to the Chief Election Commissioner in accordance with Clause 2 of Article 7 of the PCB constitution.

Caretaker Federal Minister for Privatisation and Inter-Provincial Coordination Fawad Hasan Fawad acknowledged the events in a statement to the media, stating that interim PCB Chairman Khawar has been instructed to guarantee a prompt and transparent election and to hasten the establishment of the BoG.

The minister further affirmed the issuance of Mohsin Naqvi’s nomination to lead the PCB’s BoG.

The way things are now standing up has made it possible for Naqvi to become PCB chairman. However, by the time he took over, he would have resigned as Punjab’s chief executive due to the results of the general elections on February 8.
