The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to provide young wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris with a No Objection Certificate (NOC); therefore, he departed Dhaka and would not be playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Haris announced on Instagram that he was returning from Bangladesh, sharing a photo of his packed suitcases along with the path he would follow to go back to Peshawar.
In order to compete for Chattogram Challengers in the BPL’s tenth season, the 22-year-old travelled to Dhaka. But because he has participated in two leagues since July 2023—the Global T20 League in Canada in July and the Lanka Premier League in August 2023—the PCB rejected his plea for a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Prior to this, the PCB said that, in accordance with the conditions of the players’ central contracts, they had granted NOCs to players to take part in future franchise-based competitions.
Numerous Pakistani celebrities, like Babar Azam, Muhammad Rizwan, Mohammad Waseem Jr., Faheem Ashraf, and Usman Qadir, are participating for various clubs in the BPL as both leagues began play on January 19.
The decision was made in the best interests of all the stakeholders involved while balancing the importance of game time with workload management.
Players like Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Azam Khan, and the Desert Vipers’ Imad Wasim, as well as the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders’ Imad Wasim, will be seen competing in the ILT20.
Sources claim that the PCB did not provide NOCs to young fast bowlers Ihsanullah, Naseem Shah, or Mohammad Hasnain for these leagues because they wanted them fit for the forthcoming T20 World Cup and Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Similarly, permission to participate in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) was denied to Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Haris, and Iftikhar Ahmed. Since July 2023, these players have already participated in two leagues; hence, their NOCs are on hold.
This regulation does not apply to players who have contracts in the ILT20, as their participation was decided upon by the teams prior to the issuance of central contracts.
