Due to financial constraints, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is once again dealing with a suspension of medical care provided under the Sehat Insaf card programme.
New enrollments in the health card programme have been temporarily suspended by the authorities, and this suspension is currently in effect. Emergency medical services will nonetheless be offered, but only with prior consent.
Administrative sources cited the reasons for the interruption and disclosed that the healthcare services have been suspended because of a lack of funding. Notably, the health initiative’s smooth operation has been severely hampered by the staggering Rs. 21 million that has gone unpaid for more than a year.
Officials also emphasised that the government’s release of a Rs. 1 million installment without the corresponding funds being received has made the financial strain worse. The Sahat Insaf card programme urgently requires ongoing funding, as beneficiaries are now worried about being able to access essential medical care.
