The Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed the appeals against the rejection of the nomination papers of former Punjab chief minister Pervez Elahi, former federal minister Hammad Azhar, and Sanam Javed.
Judge Ali Baqer Najafi led a three-person full bench that denied Elahi’s request to have papers from four constituencies—NA-64, NA-69, PP-32, and PP-34—rejected.
Meanwhile, the same LHC bench has rejected Hammad Azhar’s nomination papers from NA-129.
It was pleaded at the hearing that the judgement of the appeals tribunal and the returning officer to deny the candidate a chance to run for office be deemed unlawful. However, the RO and tribunal’s ruling were maintained by the court.
Sanam Javed’s request was also denied, meaning she would not be permitted to participate in the elections scheduled for February 8.
