Pakistan has seen an epidemic of violence against women, with ARY programme presenter Ashfaque Ishaq Satti making headlines recently when he was charged with abusing his third wife, Nomaika Ashfaque Satti.
On January 28, 2024, Satti’s third wife went to the North Nazimabad police station to file a complaint against her husband. She said that her spouse, a well-known newsreader who also hosted a morning programme on a major TV network, had severely abused her.
Satti was thereafter the subject of a formal complaint filed by Port City police under sections 337-A, 506, and 324.
The victim posted a comprehensive account of the terrifying video on social media. She also mentioned her mother-in-law, saying that she received no assistance from her.
Satti’s wife said in the heartbreaking post that she was assaulted and sustained severe injuries.
She claimed, “My own husband, Ashfaque Ishaque Satti, picked me up from my mother’s house and then attacked me like an animal. I’ve been beaten almost to death.”
In addition to claiming that the TV programme presenter had tried to murder her, Numaika also charged her with character assassination. Satti said in the message, “I was left in a dark room with severe injuries, no food, and no water, and I kept pleading for help.”

The victim further stated that no action was taken following the filing of a formal complaint and that the police first objected due to his husband’s persistent pressure and media influence.
Nomaika requested assistance and stated she was finishing her medical-legal.
Following the shocking occurrence, social media users, journalists, and activists responded to the accusations. Jibran Nasir, a rights activist and attorney who is also offering the victim legal services, also expressed condolences for the event.
