Prime Minister Imran Khan has slammed those who spread hatea by islamophobic actions. He questions why someone covering their heads is such a big deal.
“Why is it such a big issue if someone wants to cover their head?” staed PM Khan during an interview with reporter Rosemary Burton of CBC News. “People objecting to others wearing religious symbols is quite bizarre.”
He mentioned this while answering to a question about a law in Quebec that restricts civil servants and teachers at schools from wearing religious accessories.
“I find this secular extremism,” he said. “The whole idea behind secularism is liberalism. You want humans to be free to express the way they want to be.”
He also stated the reason why he speaks up against islamophobia and wants it to end. He said he has been a resident of UK and he knows that islamophobia exists there and the muslims there has to face a lot because of this.
PM Khan talked thoroughly about how online hate becomes the base for Islamophobia.
Back in the year 2011, France had been the first European country to restrict full face veil in public spaces. In April 2021, the Sri Lankan cabinet officially issued a restriction on burqas, on the basis of security concerns.
