Microsoft creator Bill Gates and his wife and companion philanthropist Melinda have made the announcement that they have decided to split up after being together for 27 years.
One of the world’s richest couples, with a combined wealth estimated at $130 billion — the couple have contributed billions into charitable cause all over the world through their extremely influential foundation.
While making the announcement on their twiiter account they mentioned“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” they said in a mutual announcement, both on them posted on their official accounts.
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” they wrote.
“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.”
The statement gave no further specifics on the divorce but said: “We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
