Burning Smell Forces PIA Flight to Land in Karachi in an Emergency

Both passengers and crew aboard Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Flight PK-746 experienced a startling mid-air event today. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot noticed a concerning burning smell inside the cabin while en route from Jeddah to Sialkot at a height of 20,000 feet, prompting an immediate response.

At 10 a.m. local time, the incident started as the plane took off from Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport. The safety of everyone on board was put first as the pilot and crew swiftly launched emergency protocols.

The choice was made to make an impromptu landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport out of an abundance of caution. Passengers left the plane once it had safely landed and were taken to the airport lounge, where they were given drinks and assistance as they awaited further instructions.

The representative for PIA stressed that the safety and wellbeing of their passengers and crew members was always their first priority and that the flight had been diverted to Karachi for a crew change out of an abundance of caution.
