Aamir Azim Bajwa is required to keep working by the Federal Government until a new PTA chairman is chosen.

According to sources, the cabinet division has asked PTA Chairman Aamir Azim Bajwa to stay on the job for an additional three weeks.

Amir Azim Bajwa, Chairman of the PTA, will have his four-year term come to an end on January 2, 2023, according to sources in the cabinet division. The Federal Government has begun the process of appointing a new chairman, which will take three weeks to complete. In order to manage the day-to-day operations of authority, Aamir Azim Bajwa has been asked to keep working until a new chairman is appointed.

The summary for extending the term of current PTA Chairman Aamir Azim Bajwa by four years has already been rejected by the federal government.

A job advertisement for the appointment of the new chairman has also been published by the cabinet division. The maximum age for interested candidates has been set at 57 years old in the advertisement.

According to sources, Aamir Azim Bajwa is currently over the 57-year age limit and is therefore ineligible to reapply for the position of chairman.

In addition, PTA sent a summary requesting that the term of Member (Compliance & Enforcement) Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, who is scheduled to leave his position on January 14, 2023, be extended. Sources claim that the federal government has not responded to the summary for Dr. Khawar Siddique’s 4-year extension of his term.

After his retirement, Member Finance PTA Muhammad Naveed’s reappointment has already sparked debate. Farhatullah Babar, leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court against Muhammad Naveed’s recent reappointment (IHC).
