On Saturday, the world health organization (WHO) addressed the situation regarding Coid-19 stating that within 24hours, 260,000 new coronavirus cases were reported in a single day. By far these reported cases have been the largest number in a single day and the global death toll has also increasingly taken the number to 7360.
According to the WHO, this is the first time the number of new daily infections has surpassed a quarter of a million. The biggest increases were in the US, Brazil, India, and South Africa reports BBC.
Based on the tally kept by John Hopkins University, USA; the total number of new covid-19 confirmed cased has risen above 14 million taking the death toll to 600,000 in total.
Including Florida, Texas, and Arizona, coronavirus cases are increasing rapidly in many parts of the US.
Florida is currently the major affected state of the US due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The state confirmed more than 10,000 new infections and 90 more deaths on Saturday, bringing its total number of cases to more than 337,000 and its death toll to more than 5,000. Hospitals around the state have also given the warning that no new patients could be admitted in the ICU’s.
In these situations, it is essential that people wear masks in order to reduce the risk of high-spread of this virus. US President Donald Trump said that he would not mandate wearing masks on a national level after Dr Anthony Fauci, US top infectious disease expert had suggested that that the leaders should be forceful in making sure that people are wearing masks.
India currently has the third-highest number of confirmed corona cases as the hospitals in Mumbai and Bangalore are filled with patients. Even after this, the scientists have warned that the country is yet to witness the peak of this outbreak. On Saturday, India reported another 34,884 new cases within the time period of 24 hours along with 67 deaths.
South Africa is also among those with a high number of coronavirus cases. Different measures are being taken in order to reduce the wide-spread including a ban on public and private meetings and gatherings with more than 10 individuals. Ban on visiting nursing homes and public places such as gyms and clubs have been closed off.
