Due to diminishing gas reserves, Pakistani gas users will experience 16 hours of gas load shedding every day throughout the forthcoming winter.

During a press briefing, acting federal minister for energy Muhammad Ali stated that the government will only supply gas to household customers for eight hours each day. He said, “Depleting gas reservoirs means the government cannot provide consumers with an uninterrupted gas supply during the winter.”

The minister made it clear that in order for home users to meet their gas needs, they must switch from natural gas to LPG gas. According to him, the nation’s gas reserves are losing five to seven percent of their capacity each year. He said that because gas is so scarce in the nation, the administration has chosen to keep a total restriction on new gas connections.

In response to questions, Ali stated that two cargoes had been bought by the government off the spot market for December 2023. Additionally, it intends to buy two spot cargoes in January 2024.

In order to reduce the revolving debt on gas, the minister told the media that the government has raised the price of gas. The gas industry’s circular debt has increased to Rs. 2,100 billion. According to him, the government has halted the increase in circular debt in the gas industry following the implementation of new gas pricing.

According to him, in order to satisfy domestic demand, the government is encouraging exploration efforts around the nation. According to him, the gas industry has been losing 400 billion rupees a year. He went on to describe the losses, saying that the Sui gas firms lose Rs. 190 billion a year. However, because of the cost disparity, the government has been losing Rs. 210 billion on LNG.
