A “roti gang” has been reunited after the PSL 6 draft was presented and Islamabad United picked Hasan Ali as a platinum pick. The “roti gang” which comprises of Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf got reunited after this pick.
The roti gang was first formed when Pakistan team was on a tour to New Zealand as the new comers made a group on whatsapp where they could be in touch with other and could get meals together in that way. The group was created by Mohammad Nawaz and other members included Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali and Fakhar Zaman.
All these youngsters had their internationaal debut right after their first PSL tournament performances after on year of each other.
In February 2016, after the first PSL tournament, Faheem Ashraf was the first one from the roti gang to make international debut against UAE in the Asia cup. In the same year in August, Hasan Ali made his debut against Ireland. In 2017 durin it was the Shadab’s turn to step his feet in International cricket platform when he received the title of man of the mathc on his debut.
In ICC champions trophy 2017, it was time for Fakhar Zaman to make his debut whereas at the same time, Faheem Ashraf made his debut against Sri Lanka.
The roti gang now even include other players such as Musa Khan and Asif Ali. The current Islamabad United squad include the majority members from the roti gang.
While talking to ProPakistani, Shadab Khan said Roti Gang was formed in 2018 on Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand. We all used to go out together to have food and sight-seeing. Whether it was on the field or off it, we all used to be together and have fun. The gang was initially started by Mohammad Nawaz, who we call, the Chief of the Group, while Hasan Ali is the accountant.
The Roti Gang is not only restricted to us three or four players. We extend an invitation to any new player, who joins the squad, and have some good food. The members of the Roti Gang keep on changing, since a few players were dropped from the national squad, but the Roti Gang goes strong. The likes of Asif Ali and Fakhar Zaman also joined the gang later on
