Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has sent show-cause notifications to 14 news stations for giving out false news concerning an upsurge in the charges of petroleum products
Based on the information, PEMRA has advised the news channels to answer back with an on paper response as well as send their reps for an in-person inquiry within a week
On 28 February, majority news sources had informed that the government had decided to bring rise in the charges of petroleum products up to Rs. 7 per liter which would be effective from 1 March.
Though, Prime Minister Imran Khan disallowed the approval of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and clarified to retain the prices of petroleum products unaffected for the first fortnight of March.
Now the sad reality is that, giving out news without ensuring realities has become a custom when it comes to news channels being in competition each other in the attempt to create an impression by broadcasting anything.
