Today the inter-provincial education ministers meeting was carried out to discuss whether the educational institutions should be reopened as planned or should it be given a second thought.
The meeting was chaired by the federal minister o education, Shafqat Mehmood. According the decision made today, the secondary schools will reopened on the same date as planned in earlier meeting i.e. 18th January 2021. On the other hand, the earlier decision for reopening middle schools from 25th January has been changed as it has now been decided the middle schools will be opened on the same day as universities i.e. 1st February.
Education ministers and health minsters, both were present at the meeting so that the current situation of coronavirus in Pakistan could be reviewed before taking any decision about the reopening of educational institutions.
Sticking to the previous plan of phase wise reopening of schools, Shafqat Mehmood tweeted “ANNOUNCEMENT: Schedule for all schools of Punjab: 9,10,11,12 classes to open on January 18th, 2021. Primary, Middle and Universities will be opening on February 1st, 2021. The situation is being monitored daily for the safety of our students and teachers and their families.”
According to a health official who instructs the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said, “Not fully convinced for schools reopening at this stage. Global learnings show a drastic increase in virus spread with schools reopening”.
