The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has launched an aggressive campaign against government institutions that have missed payments in an effort to recover a staggering amount owed of Rs. 15.323 billion. Engineer Shahid Haider, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the electric utility, has acted decisively by including governmental bodies in the recovery efforts.

On Monday, an LESCO spokesperson stated that over the previous six days, the company had already started the recovery process from various private sector defaulters within all of its operational circles. Now, LESCO has taken things a step further by making a list of government organisations that have fallen behind on payments available to the public.

The CEO has given LESCO’s pertinent officers the duty of seeing to it that money is recovered from the listed public sector departments. He has also stressed how crucial it is to take all necessary steps to hasten this process.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Lahore, which owes a sizable Rs. 7,679,880,169 in arrears, is one notable government institution in default, according to the list provided by LESCO. The Town Municipal Authority is next, owing Rs. 3,639,877,581 in back payments. Other organisations with significant unpaid bills include the Punjab Irrigation and Power Department, Pakistan Railway, Lahore Ring Road Authority, City District Government of Lahore, Punjab Health Department, Punjab Police Department, District Government of Kasur, Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Services Hospital Lahore, and Punjab University.
