Today at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka, the three-match One-Day International series between Pakistan and Afghanistan will get underway.
Both teams will use the series as a means of rehearsing for the ODI World Cup 2023 in India later this year as well as the upcoming Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
If Pakistan manages to sweep the series 3-0, they will have the chance to pass India and take the top spot in the ODI rankings, where they currently sit in second place.
Earlier this year, the Green Shirts took part in a five-match ODI series against New Zealand, which the Babar Azam-led team won 4-1.
There have been four ODIs between the two close neighbours, with Pakistan winning each of those games. The most recent game occurred during the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
Match timings:
At 2:30 PM Pakistan Standard Time, the high-stakes match between the two neighbours will begin at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium.
