Iftikhar Ahmed, an all-rounder for Pakistan, got into hot trouble during the second Twenty20 International against New Zealand after a supporter referred to him as “Chachu.” The all-round player became extremely angry, abusing the fan and giving him a shut-up call. His actions went viral on social media.
At Seddon Park in Hamilton, New Zealand batsmen were hurling Pakistani bowlers all over the pitch during the first innings of the match.
While fielding close to the boundary, Iftikhar Ahmed overheard a Pakistani supporter referring to him as “chachu.” The 33-year-old athlete was not amused by this and may have been upset about their bowlers being badly hit earlier.
The fan retorted passionately, “We are your fans,” to which Iftikhar Ahmed had given rise. But Iftikhar mistreated him and told him to stop talking in Urdu, “Khamosh reh.”
In spite of the incident, New Zealand’s scoreboard display showed a strong 194/8 in 20 overs. With Kiwi captain Kane Williamson (25) and Mitchell Santner (26) contributing with the bat, Finn Allen’s outstanding 75 off 41 balls set up a sizable goal for Pakistan.
Only three of Pakistan’s batsmen reached double digits as they bowled out at 173. With eight balls, Iftikhar Ahmed could only muster four runs. Before Shaheen Afridi’s 22-run cameo, the only hitters who showed any guts were Babar Azam (66) and Fakhar Zaman (50).
