In response to protests, Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) management has closed the Senior Staff Association (SSA) office. The PIA employee associations are speaking out against the contentious privatisation and bifurcation decisions.

According to reports on Monday, Shoaib Ahmad Dahri, the general manager of welfare, IR, and sports for PIA, gave the order to seal the SSA, which served as the protests’ epicentre.

The move by the administration was deemed illegal and an attempt to disturb a peaceful environment by SSA Secretary General Safdar Anjum. Anjum reaffirmed her resolve to continue the demonstrations until her demands were satisfied.

The discontent has taken many different forms, including a recent token strike that lasted for two hours and resulted in the closure of Pakistan International Airlines’ ticketing offices. Rana Kashif, the secretary general of the PIA CBA Lahore, organised this demonstration and demanded the temporary closure of all booking offices in the nation.

Protests were launched after the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCoP) decided to privatise PIA. The matter is still up for debate, and employees’ top concerns are that their charter be addressed and their pay be increased.
