In the previous 24 hours, the health department officials reported 85 new cases of conjunctivitis, or “pink eye.”

Due to the damaging effects of sunshine and dust on their eyes, people with this ailment find it difficult to go outside.

Dr. Intzar Hussain Butt, a renowned eye surgeon, shared his advice with the APP and advised those who were impacted to clean their eyes with tissues, cold water, and the prescribed eye drops.

According to Dr. Butt, conjunctivitis is an inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, a transparent membrane that borders the eyelid and surrounds the eyeball.

He emphasised the significance of avoiding direct physical contact and refraining from sharing private goods like handkerchiefs, pillows, and makeup with infected people.

Dr. Butt also suggested that people who were impacted wear sunglasses and take a few days off from their professional or personal obligations. It was advised to avoid joining meetings and to avoid self-medicating. The use of soap for frequent handwashing was advised.

Redness, a gritty or scratchy feeling in the eye, and itching are all signs of pink eye. Dr. Butt further mentioned that conjunctivitis frequently results in eye discharge, which can cause crusts to form on the eyelashes, especially at night.

Numerous conditions, such as allergens, allergies, or infections, might contribute to these symptoms.

throughout 85 cases were reported in Lahore hospitals’ outpatient departments throughout the course of the previous day, according to the Punjab Health Department.

40% of patients in the outpatient department at Services Hospital, according to Dr. Bushra, were seeking care for this infection.

Dr. Bushra underlined the value of taking precautions and suggested using eye drops. She encouraged those who were afflicted to practise strict hygiene, which includes keeping their personal belongings—such as towels and toiletries—separate from other people.

Patients were instructed to clean their eyes with the prescribed eye drops, tissues, and cold water if necessary. The health department of the province government emphasised the use of hand sanitizers and issued a warning against touching one’s eyes without first washing hands properly.

The health department cautioned against sharing objects, such as pillows, clothes, medications, and bedding, with people who have eye infections. Patients were also advised not to reuse facial products.
