Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Ijaz Alam Augustine has announced that the provincial government has decided to bring in action an interfaith harmony policy. The purpose of this policy is the promotion of diversity and so that all interfaith could co-exist in a peaceful manner in the country.
Regarding the policy, he stated: “Towards Improved Human Rights Protection in Punjab” organized in collaboration by the Democracy Reporting International and Punjab Human Rights and Minority Affairs Department.
He added: “We need to change societal behaviour to ensure respect for people’s rights, especially of minority communities.” While addressing on the occasion, Tahir Khalil Sindhu, chairperson of the Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights and Minorities Affairs, expressed his support to human rights stakeholders. He made it known that to participants that meetings of the standing committee were not being conducted because of the instruction limitation of the committee chair and members.
